It says real leather but of all the "natural" products I own, this is definitely the worst quality real leather. I have belts from a $3 corner store in New York and they are better quality than this one. it looks and feels like painted cardboard. It's tough, tearing and peeling already right out of the "tube" it was sent in. I doubt he'll take a good beating. he is extremely tough. it makes a "popping" sound rather than a slapping sound and tends to bend and snap or snap in half when it hits a curved surface. I am very disappointed because I had high hopes. I've bought 3 items from this company and I'm dissatisfied with 2 of them (I haven't received the 3rd one yet). On the positive side, I received it fairly quickly. That's really the only reason it gets two stars. Even the handle is long and wobbly, making it almost impossible to use properly unless you're tossing it over your shoulder to spank yourself. Now I know: just spend the extra money by going to a real store to buy a spanking device. So you can feel it and feel if it has any malleability - which it doesn't have here - that will help it last a while.
