I tried to count to make sure we got the correct number but I lost track, and honestly I didn't really need 78 of them and I was close enough that it didn't matter to me. Only one out of all of them had a broken hand, but I gave several of them a squeeze and they didn't feel really flimsy so I don't think breakage will be too big of an issue. The paint job is okay. It's not really detailed but for the size of them and for the price, who would expect it to be? I like that they're just really colorful. They're small, definitely not for little little kids. My son is turning 3 and we will put them in a pinata and maybe stick some on top of cupcakes, and for that purpose they will be perfect
