This is a complete, ready to fly package with everything you need. The transmitter has a range of over 100 yards and has 3 flight modes: VTOL, horizontal stabilization and full "acro" mode. The flight time is about 6 minutes at full throttle. Takeoff and landing in VTOL requires a very calm day: in windy weather, imagine trying to fly a kite without a rope. When it transitions from VTOL to level flight it really takes off, so only fly in the open field if you're learning. Finally, make sure you have the instruction manual in your back pocket until you memorize everything. It's a little difficult to get off the ground. Overall this is an impressive aircraft but is intended for intermediate pilots with radio control experience.
