Poor color and brightness settings, inconsistent, already failing

I'm a big fan of home automation and using color controlled lighting inside and outside my home. While building a new house this year, I decided I wanted to install 4 inch ceiling lights on the ceiling of our house. I like Philips Hue bulbs because they are reliable and their mobile app is intuitive and everything works at all times. 4 inch fasteners. Color Hue recessed lights are pretty expensive at $54.99 per light (I needed 15 of these) and I needed a panel light and they're long gone. So I started looking for something that suited my needs. I ended up ordering some of these lamps and having an electrician install them. The first thing I noticed is that they don't heat up (color temperature) as much as I would like and they don't fade as low as I would like. The Hue bulbs I have in my bus headlights can get much warmer and dimmer, which looks amazing at night. The next thing I noticed was how contradictory they were. I use the SmartLife app to create automations to turn them on/off at sunset/sunrise in a scene I created. Sometimes all the indicators don't even light up. I have to turn them off and on again using the SmartLife app. I don't think I do this every night (nor should I) so there are nights when it seems like a few lightbulbs have burned out. To be honest, I don't know if this is a function of the lighting or the SmartLife app, or a combination of both. What I do know for sure is that my hue lights work perfectly every night and every morning. The next thing that happened after less than 2 months of use was a bright white LED on one of the bulbs. Even if I turn off the light (via the app), it stays on. When the light is on, it is noticeably whiter and brighter than any other light source. I turned the flashlight off and on again, but it had no effect on the stuck LED after turning the light back on using the SmartLife app. Another thing that stinks is that these light companies keep refusing to adapt to Zigbee or Z.-Wave so you have to use their bridge. That's not too bad unless you intend to use them as part of a larger smart home ecosystem. Currently, neither these lamps nor their bridge can be integrated into the Hubitat, which is very disappointing. I can't imagine Bridge making up the bulk of their income so I just don't get it. Or continue to request the bridge but enable integration with Hubitat. For example, while you can control Hue lights (that's Zigbee) directly, you can integrate and control Hue Bridge with Hubitat to take advantage of the Hue app and Hubitat hub.

Pros
  • RGB and CW adjustment
Cons
  • Very expensive
