These water shoes are comfortable both in the sea and on land. I recently visited Hawaii and my hotel was about a 10 minute walk from Waikiki Beach. I've worn these water shoes to and from the beach and in between in the water. They were still comfortable after seawater and sand entered them. They were stiff enough to protect my feet from sharp rocks in the ocean, but weren't overly stiff and difficult to take off like other water shoes I've tried. The lower part of the sole is the rigid part, while the upper part is made of soft, breathable fabric. The multiple color options are also great, which sets them apart from other water shoes you can get at ABC stores in Waikiki. They fit me perfectly and I usually wear the larger sizes. I'm glad I ordered them for my vacation.
