Because of the costs I had to think long and hard about buying this rack. I made my purchase decision after reading about pets and car accidents. Pearl (6 lb Chihuahua) will now ride in this van while in a car. The carrier itself is very stable and well made. It's a bit heavy, so I won't be using it for carrying anytime soon. I like the color and materials. The inner "fur" is incredibly soft. The mesh upper is very heavy and the Velcro straps are strong. It's a bit tricky to bring the top and bottom zippers together. But I believe it will improve as the materials loosen up. I've only had the carrier for a few days, but I've noticed a strong odor emanating from the backing materials. I'm not sure where the smell is coming from, but it appears to be in the inner nylon sleeve. It's that "new" smell of some kind of chemical. I took out the fur lining and am now airing it. Again, I hope time will dissipate the smell. Pearl and I drove the car yesterday and she was very happy with the Sleepypod. I secured the Sleepypod with the seat belt as instructed. Once the media was connected it was very secure. I see Pearl every day with this Sleepypod. >>>>> Update from 05/14/15. The smell really went away within a few days. I use Sleepypod very often and love it! I ordered a mesh bottom for warmer weather. I will also buy a greenhouse for the winter. Pearl loves the Sleepypod because it gives her the ability to stretch and roll over. I took her on a day trip by car and she slept most of the time, about four hours. Although I still think it's a bit pricey, it seems worth it. I highly recommend this product.
