Unfortunately, in most cases, the installation begins with reading the supplied instructions. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person with good mechanical skills and over 40 years of woodworking experience. I read those 1 page instructions and then re-read them multiple times to figure out what I was missing. The only thing that made a difference for me was how far from the back of the lid you could mount the top hinge mount. I then went to YouTube and watched a 12 minute video that gave me the confidence to install it. My project called for 2 hinges so I was very careful when setting it up for consistency. The hinges seem to work and work great, but don't rely on the instructions for help.
