When choosing, I looked for dishes that would help control portions. They fit well enough for that, especially if a salad is a side (the big half). But even if they didn't work for this purpose, I would still love them! The lids fit very well and I don't have to worry about leaks. The separator does not go all the way to the top, but is high enough to prevent overflow during normal handling of a full tray. They can be washed in the dishwasher. I don't put lids on because I suspect they will last longer if I hand wash them. They're great for the microwave and thick enough that you won't burn yourself picking them up - at least I didn't. I'm sure it's possible. They're glass, so they're a little heavier, but that's not a problem. They keep well in the fridge. They don't nest for closet storage, but I store with lids on; Just so I don't lose the lids. I don't really like dishes, but I like this one.
