Review on Aqueon Modular Aquarium Fixture 24 Inch by Angela Johnson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My fish like low light.

I bought this lamp because my 1.5 year old Finnex broke for unknown reasons. This is a reasonable price for an LED light, which is great. I use it on a Petco 20 gallon tetra tank with flip top glass lid and it fits perfectly. It's solidly built and looks great on my aquarium. I currently only use it with the 1 LED strip that comes with it. The light is noticeably weaker than my Finnex. The sides of the tank are not illuminated as much as the center. This can be solved by adding additional LED tubes. However, my fish (cardinal tetras) actually like subdued light. They've become more sociable, which is great. As for the plants, I grow dwarf Sagittarius and Cryptocorynes in organic potting soil sprinkled with sadness. There are also Javanese ferns tied to driftwood. When I got my super bright Finnex light, the gnomes and crypts increased drastically, turning my aquarium into a chaotic green jungle. That's great and all. However, I had to regularly thin out the growth, which was very bad because the soil substrate is very dirty. Now with this Aqueon light I still get plant growth that needs maintenance but less frequently. So this light supports plant growth, but not as much as a brighter light. If you want plants to grow better you should add a 2nd or 3rd LED strip but I personally only use 1 because my fish like dimmer lighting. 4 stars for the reduced lighting at the pool edges, but otherwise I'm satisfied. with the function of this LED.
