Should have bought this first

I bought a 2018 15" MacBook Pro to keep my aging iMac (which I used in the office) and my old 13" Macbook Pro (which I travel frequently used) to replace ). The key to replacing two computers with one was the ability to have three 27-inch 2K monitors in the office. I found that while the 2018 MacBook Pro did its job reasonably well, reliable TB3 display adapters were hard to come by at a reasonable price. This adapter just works, unlike the other two I've tried (the adapters were from other manufacturers, were quirky and sometimes wouldn't wake up from sleep).
