Large size for the woman and small size for the daughter. She said the size difference was barely noticeable, but she was able to tell which was small and which was large by trying on both, as the packaging didn't say which was which. I would say small is still an adult size or maybe a teen but not a small child. Both still love hats. We use them for our New Year photos. They didn't have black as stated by some other reviews. The lining is perfect inside and is not visible when worn. The fur was a little tangled at first, but shaking it for five seconds fixed it. It covers the top of my wife's ears but not the bottom, which she likes so she can wear earrings.
