Review on πŸ”§ Irwin Marples M444 S4 Woodworking Tools by Aaron Franklin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good solid chisels

I like these chisels but prefer the old yellow and red hard pins that Marples used. The red part had an inward curve and you could prop the chisel up on the side with a finger for trimming and such, and the handle seemed more durable for hammer blows. They are still pretty good though, Sheffield steel blades are such great well made blades. They need to be polished when you get them, they're kind of pre-sharpened, but it's just cut into the blade. Mine came with a 3/8" cap on a 1/2" blade so it was useless as you had to use pliers to remove it (idiots). But my biggest problem is Revain's pricing games. Once they had a 5 piece set for $18 and another time a 4 piece set for $44 so be patient when buying because you can always find a good price somewhere. I'd say that for $6 you're still getting a lot because they're really good pieces.
