Continuous. Before use, make sure all fasteners are in place.
They are surprisingly strong, comfortable and light. My only complaint is that three of the chairs were missing fasteners on the same side of the metal plate under the seat that covers the bar that slides when opened. The pictures I uploaded show three of the chairs with no fasteners and one to show how they should look.
