Big design flaws. Avoid!

I made the mistake of buying this part with a Whale brand bilge pump that keeps burping and wants to pump the same standing water over and over again. Whale recommended this part in the owner's manual for a specific bilge pump that I own. Unfortunately, this part can't be the worst design for a check valve. First, the design consists of 3 triangular valves that push against the walls when water is flowing and try to close when the water stops flowing. I say "try" because even if the water isn't flowing, the 3 dampers won't close completely, completely defeating the purpose of this device. All of the upstream water flows back through these poorly designed dampers at a rate of a few drops per second, and you're left with the same problem you started with. water in the hold. Sure, the Whale engineers could have come up with a much better valve system, but that would require them to stop drinking and actually fix fluid flow issues, but given that this part is made in Ireland, that's unlikely. This may happen soon. Avoid this part! UPDATE: I also tried Jabsco's built-in 3/4" check valve and while it's better, it also ends up letting all the water flow back to where it came from. I tried using a 3/4" brass check valve from a hardware store for use in sump pumps, but the valve was too strong to allow enough water into the bilge system. I ended up using Jabsco, but the Whale part would probably fit equally well (since both allow for reflux). I know some hardware stores sell plastic check valves for drain pumps - this might be the best solution in the long run.
