I first got a set of SAS SATA forward breakout cables on ebay along with my order for an LSI SAS 9207 SATA/SAS HBA hard drive controller card ordered. They were definitely cheaper on ebay and the ones on ebay worked great for 6 months until I decided to upgrade my unraid server to a brand new Ryzen build. When rebuilding while disconnecting the LSI HBA card, I accidentally pulled on part of the black sleeve covering the SAS connector barrel area. Turns out it was just cosmetic. After running a fresh build, everything started fine and seemed stable. The data copied well and everything went well. until I tried to confirm the batch. I quickly started encountering constant parity errors with varying numbers of errors on every check. This was a coincidence, although all SMART drive tests passed easily. After many hours of research and troubleshooting, drive isolation, etc., I finally decided to just try replacing the cables with cables ordered from Revain (for fast Prime shipping). To my surprise, the parity turned out to be perfect! This immediately solved all my stability issues and allowed to rebuild and check parity many times (to confirm). I've heard that the unraid parity process can be sensitive to cable issues, but wow, after 30+ years of PC building I was very surprised but glad to have received a quality cable so quickly!
