Mandatory if you have a Malone trailer. This allows me to shrink my trailer enough that I can park it in my garage and park my car in front of it. :-) If you are thinking of this when buying a trailer, I would advise you not to follow the wiring instructions exactly. I hooked mine up so I could tow the trailer with the drawbar lengthened or shortened. I used the extra wiring harnesses that came with this kit to have an extra connection at the front and back of the trailer. All you have to do is cut, splice and make a few more connections to the wiring as directed.
