I'm a beginner and this is my first hot shoe. I found the Altura AP-305 flash easy to learn and set up. It has 6 buttons and a scroll wheel. The device does not come with a manual, but it is available online. I've used it with alkaline batteries, with a full cycle between shots of 5 seconds or more. The cycle time decreases with decreasing power. In TTL mode, my shots were slightly overexposed, even in indirect light. In manual mode, as the power decreased, there was a good light pattern with no glare. I recommend this flash for beginners. So far I haven't used the RD-305 for off-camera lighting.
