Review on Progressive - PD5110010QV 5100 Series Interruptor de Transferencia Automática - 120 Vac, 30 Amp with Screw Connection: Reliable Power Backup Solution by Jose Schweigert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Replaces PD5110610 with this newer model (PD5110010Q)

The model supplied was the latest version (PD5110010Q) from Progressive Dynamics, this model includes Quick Flip Lever Lock Connectors. Previous versions were PD5110010 with pigtails and my old version; PD5110610 with screw terminal blocks. My old unit failed due to a faulty circuit breaker on the transmission tower which would not trip on overload causing the shore power wires at the terminal block to heat up and burn their insulation. This unit was easy to install, but I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the instruction manual could have been better. I copied the highlighted connections from my old block. There were no labels on the new block, and under the cover the same sticker with the wiring diagram as on the old one. I could see how some people might be confused by the lack of clear connection instructions if it was a fresh install and the lack of a follow up link. Previous reviews suggest that the terminal block model is better and quick connectors are somehow "cheaper". I believe this model is an improvement over the terminal block style. It's easier to mix up the wires, and there's no way to break the screw on the terminal block.

Pros
  • Screw Wiring
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
