Review on Kreg KHC 1420 Automaxx Clamp 6 Inch by Lamar Vanderburg

I really like the auto-adjust feature of these clips, but after a few months of use I found that they are not as strong as their regular non-self-adjusting clips. Part of the self-regulating mechanism broke, rendering it unusable after just a few uses. I've noticed that several other reviewers have had this issue as well, so the buyer should be wary. for adjustability is high, but for heavy use I can't recommend it yet. Also, the pivoting clamp plates at the ends of the arms were not flat, making it impossible to get a nice, even front frame joint. which tends to force the clamped parts apart before final pressure is applied. So you get less overall power for the convenience of automatic adjustment. Good idea, but I think maybe they were too hasty with it. Or maybe they have quality control issues. Not sure which ones, but I won't be buying them again for the face frame clamp anyway. UPDATE: Craig sent me a new clamp and said the part that snapped in the self-adjusting mechanism has been improved. I noticed that the newer item was stamped "alloy steel". So it looks like they have updated this part. Only time will tell for sure! One thing I would like to reiterate here is that Kreg's customer service is superior to any other company I have ever dealt with. Because of this, I will never be afraid to purchase their products in the future. They have shown me repeatedly that they are serious about making sure their products are the best they can be and that their quest for excellence continues. For that I give them 5 stars.
