I compared this iron head-to-head with the Rowenta DW9280 which is currently the most popular iron and ranks #1 in Consumer Reports reviews. Since I am a bachelor, horizontal ironing is not intended for me. I buy clothes that aren't wrinkled or ironed and use the vertical steam function to make shirts look neat. The Panasonic iron is much better than the Rowenta iron which costs almost twice as much. As for the vertical steam function, the Rowenta has twice as many steam holes (400), but the holes are small. I found that the vapor distribution is not as even as the Panasonic. Rowenta blows most of the steam out of the top of the iron. Also, it will run out of gas if you press the button one after another. Panasonic allows you to regulate the steam output depending on the button press. Press it quickly and you get a massive steady burst of steam. Push it down slowly and you'll get a smoother stream of less vapor. The Panasonic doesn't run out of gas like the Rowenta either. With Rowenta, after hitting the vertical steam button 5 times in fairly quick succession, it'll be completely exhausted and you'll have to wait for it to recover. With Panny, if you press the button at intervals of 4-5 seconds, you will never run out of breath. I also found the Panasonic to produce more stable vapor when used horizontally. On a low setting you can see a 1/2 inch layer of steam coming from the bottom of the iron. Rowenta doesn't produce as much steam and doesn't spread as evenly on the bottom of the iron. Panasonic also seems to be a hotter potato. I was close to being burned by the steam jets. In cotton mode I set it on low or use wool mode and get a lot of warmth. I don't know what Consumer Reports says. Reviewers smoked when they rated these irons. Nevertheless, I sent the Rowenta back and kept the Panasonic. it should be like that. Check the side of the box when you buy it and it's advertised with a 'curved sole'. This helps to facilitate the removal of creases/creases during the ironing process.
