When the price of LED bulbs fell to an acceptable level, I replaced all the incandescent and CFL bulbs in my house with LEDs. However, I didn't think about my lava lamps. I have about ten of these. You need lamps from 15 watts for the smallest to 100 watts for the largest. The problem is that they require incandescent bulbs, which produce light very inefficiently but are very good at converting electricity to heat. They are ten times less efficient than LEDs at producing light. Incandescent lamps will one day be hard to find as they have been replaced by LEDs. The heat generated by an incandescent lamp is necessary to create the lava effect. One of my lava lamps requires a 25W bulb. So I'm glad I found these replacement bulbs. Now I have to think about the rest of my lava lamps.
