Review on ๐Ÿ“ฆ Resin Weather Resistant Outdoor Garden Storage Deck Box by Rubbermaid Mini in Mocha by Ron Kishore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Every negative review is WRONG!

When I think about a purchase, I usually read negative reviews first. This gives me an idea of what problems I might encounter, or at least what to look out for when purchasing the product. After reading the reviews I decided to buy the product and work out the flaws so that it suits our needs. Specific complaints were that it doesn't stick together, isn't waterproof, has a flimsy design, falls apart when opening the lid, the sides "pop" but don't stay. I could go ahead and list all the cons so I was ready to answer because we all wanted to store our pool toys, games, kids life jackets, etc. So when the package arrived it had 6 strong pieces of molded plastic and a small plastic bag with 4 screws and 2 plastic strips and of course instructions. As a full-blooded American, of course I didn't read the instructions and tried to assemble the box with my wife. You can tell I met all the negative aspects of this box written in the reviews. However, I figured no one would sell such a stupid thing! So I started looking at each piece and the first thing we noticed was that the sides weren't aligned properly. They don't "bang" back and forth, they fit into the wide part of the slot and then slide down into the narrow slot which "locks" them in the front and back of the box. So we connect the front, back and each side and put them on the bottom of the box. It was correctly aligned but not solid, and as soon as you moved anything the sides slid up and out of the slots. We looked at the box again and then I noticed that on the bottom it said 'This Side Down', DOH! So we flipped the bottom and realigned the sides and it was still falling apart. So I looked at the tabs at the bottom of the sides, front and back, and it was clear they weren't "snapping" into the base. Now I think this is bad design? Who ships molded plastic products that won't stick together? Okay, I guess it's time to read the instructions to see if I missed anything. There I found out that you have to take a piece of wood, a hammer and a screwdriver and knock out the tabs that prevent the box from locking. Hm? Are they molding this product with a mold that requires customers to hit the plastic with a hammer and screwdriver? Well, I've banged plastic with a hammer enough in my life to know that if you miss the target (ie the screwdriver) and hit the plastic, a hammer will break, mar or shatter a piece of plastic. So instead I took my utility knife and stuck the blade into the thin piece of plastic between the ledge and the bottom of the frame. If you lift the bottom towards the sun you can see where the sunlight is brightening the thin plastic. So I cut out all the excess, which was actually very easy, and then tried to put it back together. Each bar "snapped" and the box was very strong and didn't fall apart no matter how we moved it, pushed it or even turned it upside down. We liked it. Next came the cover. It had molded hinges with a pin that had to be threaded through the molded rear tab in the base unit to connect the cover to the base. Actually it was pretty easy. There was a soft click when the lid was closed, not a loud click, more like a click. It was very durable and my wife, daughter and I sat on the bench and it held together perfectly. The way it is made is NOT waterproof. If you immerse it in water, water will penetrate. It is waterproof and water-repellent. does not fall into the box from rain, splashes in the pool or from a hose. It is designed to allow water to drain out of the box, not into the box. We had a couple of days of heavy rain and when we opened the box the contents were not wet from the rain. So my final rating of this product is 5 stars because it does everything it claims to do and any negative aspects that have been reported are the result of user error (my opinion of course) because if everyone puts it together like me You don't need liquid nails, it won't fall apart and it's waterproof. One final note, mine did NOT come with dividers or mesh on the lid. Revain told me that according to their fulfillment center, it should have come with them. They wanted to send me a new one but I would have to somehow disassemble the box I had to send back and I don't think I can do that without damaging it so I just kept it and they gave me a partial one Refund sent for purchase mesh and dividers separately. Very happy with the product and Revain.
