Use another finger or thumb under the now overhanging part of the tongue and the whole part will lift up. It's a quick step once you get the hang of it and now that we've had it installed for 6 months I can do it without a second thought. I haven't tried any of the others to be honest, but I'm not sure how another locking design can be as versatile yet so easy to use. It's also worth noting that they're VERY easy to clean up if they manage to catch something (they're in the kitchen so things can get on them).
