I keep getting compliments on these shoes in ballroom dancing class. These are real dance shoes, they have a suede bottom for easy pivoting and soft leather interior for a secure fit. Due to my jazz/ballet dancing background I have bursitis and these shoes are soft enough not to compress which can cause back pain. They are not designed to be worn outdoors. I only wear street shoes to the studio and change when I go in. They are easy to put on right out of the box, no need to break them. They have a buckle, yes, but it's only for adjusting the strap. The thing that actually secures your foot in the shoe is the hook/latch. . This is normal for dance shoes for quick costume changes.
