I have an Apple Cinema Display and used it with my 2011 MacBook Air. I have a MacBook Pro"13 2017 and bought this adapter so I can keep using the display. This adapter works great. You need this adapter and a USB to USB-C adapter (I got the Apple one in the Bought store). , when I took my Mac with me.) You can also buy an extra power cord to keep one with the screen and the other in my bag (I travel a lot so I did this). The screen's power cord in anything. It just stays off. Your MacBook Pro has a Mini-Port display with the adapter plugged in, USB-C with the adapter plugged in, and the power cord that came with your laptop. Everything works: sound, display, wireless keyboard/mouse. Everything works .Much luck.
