Review on High-Quality Monoprice Cat5E Ethernet πŸ’» Patch Cable for Industrial Electrical Use by Chris Hunt

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good luck unplugging this cable after installation

The anti-seize sleeve on both Monoprice Cat5e cables I have purchased ensures that you CANNOT unplug them manually. The only way to disconnect the cable is to use a flat tool like a feeler gauge, small screwdriver, or butter knife to depress the locking tab. Because the construction and stiffness of the boot make it totally impossible to release the tongue by simply (or even very excessively) squeezing between thumb and forefinger. I verified that the outlet wasn't the problem by trying both ends of both cords on 3 or 4 different devices including a cord tester. In each case the same result, a tool had to be inserted to release the locking tab. There's nothing wrong with my strength or manual dexterity, it's just a very very poor design of a normal simple device. Worth considering only if you want to discourage a curious child from turning off your internet. The cable itself seems to be typical for the price range, my tester could not find any problems with either. I have a few other Monoprice products and have always been satisfied. this failure.
