I like it! - Portable AV

First, I'm deducting a star because of the poor documentation that comes with the programming software. The radio works well, but the setup and menus are unintuitive and taking too long to figure out what to do. I spent two evenings on this and I think I get it now. After programming the radio I can say that I really like it, it transmits well and the performance is as advertised. I get good signal reports and reception is good. I haven't tried all of the features yet, but I'll edit them when I try the interband repeater feature, which is the main reason I bought it. Not to mention I replaced two radios with a smaller radio for VHF and UHF communications. Edit 2/13/15 - I tried the repeat across frequency band feature tonight. It was easy to set up and worked great. I'll take more time to write about it later when I have more experience. Bottom line, the quality looks good and it works as advertised. I can't speak for long-term reliability as I haven't spent any time with it. It's really good value for money as it looks and works like the Yaesu FT-8800 Dual Band and costs about $200 less. I use it as a base station so it doesn't get vibration etc in a mobile environment. I'm sure it will extend the lives of some. If you want a dual band crossover radio and require the HAM and GRMS bands, this radio will fit.
