Review on Maxell Cassette VHS C Adapter 290060 by Larry Daniels

Important Notes in this Review

I don't usually write reviews, although I read many of them and find them useful. So I'm only writing this because I read the bad reviews on this product and almost bought more expensive ones; but decided to stop there to save money. I was concerned that in order to save a few bucks I risked damaging my cassette or VCR based on comments in another review. I'm pretty sure the reason they had problems was because they weren't using it properly. The instructions are pretty bad and if you don't use them correctly you will break the tape and/or ruin your VCR. So here is how to use it: the instructions simply say: open the lid, insert the tape and close the lid; but it is much more.1. Open the lid and you will see two protruding racks that are spring loaded. It's very important that you don't do what I did, which are the ones that go in front of the tape, so I pushed them apart and dropped the tape so the pins were on the outside of the tape. After experimenting and seeing how they work, I realized that these messages fit in the feed, so just paste the feed without moving the messages.2. When inserting the tape, make sure the front door of your VHSC tape is fully open. When I first inserted the band I didn't push it all the way through and the valve didn't even open. Do not use force, but when the band engages the mechanism, the valve will open. The gears are plastic so play with them, don't strain yourself.3. Now you can break the tie here; The instructions say "close the lid" which is correct, but that's not true, don't mention that by closing the lid you're actually doing something else; There is a gear built into the lid as the lid covers the two inner pins, pushing the tape forward and outward, spreading the tape and pushing towards the front of the adapter cartridge. This will pull the tape out of your VHSC and hold it that it touches the head of the VCR when the tape is inserted into the VCR. As you slide the lid forward, do so slowly, like back and forth, with light pressure. Clicking on it will break your feed! If you do all this you will find that this adapter is excellent and will save you a lot of money compared to others that cost twice as much but probably have better instructions. . When the cover closes the two pins that are inside the ribbon, slide it forward and out, spread the ribbon and slide it toward the front of the adapter cartridge. This pulls the tape out of your VHSC and holds it so that it touches the VCR head as the tape feeds into the VCR. As you slide the lid forward, do so slowly, like back and forth, with light pressure. Clicking on it will break your feed!
