A simple entry into the bow drill

The hearth board broke on the second or third use, but is easy to fix with glue. The mechanism is easy to use, produces smoke and a good amount of embers surprisingly quickly. It still needs to be learned how to know if the right kind of punk is forming, if the right amount has accumulated to make an ember, and how to gently push the fire aside and let the embers breathe. The product could be very good with a more detailed explanation of the technique. Without special care, the cover will fall off slightly, which can allow dirt to get into the bearings and washers. I really like the smooth holder but someone needs to redesign it to avoid losing parts or getting dirty. The English translation of the instructions is a little awkward, which is more fun than a hassle. A great way to teach someone how bow drills work and how well the stock, bow and holder are made has a HUGE impact on how easy it is to start a fire. Usually the archery learning curve is high due to these factors that make people give up. This product removes that barrier. However, as a survival tool, I would not recommend this product. It is a survival learning tool. For any situation where a jet drill is really needed, this product is too bulky with too many moving parts. If it were possible to incorporate this product into equipment then one could use a faro stick, matches or something else that would make it much easier to start a fire.
