Review on Rubbermaid Commercial Galvanized Mechanical FG421588BLA by Christopher Pfaffe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for small outdoor cleanings.

This is a review of the Rubbermaid FG421588 Brushless Mechanical Sweeper, Zinc Plated Steel, 10.5" Long, 9.5" Wide, 44" High, Black, Model #4215 - Expensive. As a kid we had one of those big ol' Bissel carpet brushes and I've always found it to be a brilliant alternative to a clunky, noisy, power-hungry vacuum, which of course can't do everything. a vacuum cleaner will do, but for frequent cleaning of smooth floors or short-pile carpets, they're just what the doctor ordered. Bit of rotating brushes (and cheaper Rubbermaid models) but I'm very happy with them. They seem to pick up dirt, dust, and kitty litter just as well, if not better, than brushes, and I believe they do well on wet messes too, although I didn't have to test that hypothesis. I was hesitant to give this sweeper five stars because it's of little use in cramped spaces (like the bathroom rug in a tiny New York apartment bathroom), but I figured it wouldn't be fair to deduct a star for that, considering how it's done device works. However, buyers should be aware of this inherent limitation: * You must have room to move the entire sweeping head in a straight line about 30cm or it will not be able to do its job. * Rotating mops that are two or three inches behind the leading edges (back and front) must go through the dirt when rotating or they will not be able to sweep it. The small, firm, downward-pointing brushes on the corners seem designed to pick up dirt along the baseboard where mops can't reach (because they're covered by the machine's body), but they're not very effective. However, that's not the biggest complaint. If dirt is directly against the wall, you can use a broom or hand brush to sweep it into an open area where a sweeper can reach it. This sweeper is not intended to replace a vacuum cleaner or a broom in general. It's just easier to use for the job it's in, and it works for a lot of common jobs, especially small spills, traceable dirt, and various messy accidents - as long as they're more or less fine. Open. And it can certainly replace the dustpan. The design of the sweeper seems to be good. The materials feel solid and the moving parts run smoothly with no wobbles, squeaks or other signs of sloppy manufacturing or assembly. I've seen complaints about other brands of sweeper handles that are made up of sections meant to be held together by friction, but reportedly don't hold together very well. The handle of this machine is also sectioned, but the sections are threaded and bolted together. (Note that cheaper Rubbermaid models also have friction fit grips. I have no idea how well or poorly they hold together. Reports vary.) As long as you make sure the threads don't cross each other, this grip should fit together and stick together nicely and once assembled it feels very solid. (Helpful Tip: To avoid twisting the threads, always back off all threaded parts as if you were unscrewing them until you hear or feel a click, indicating the threads are properly engaged.) Rotating mops sweep debris in trays under the leading and trailing edges sweeper. Clear ABS lids let you see when the bowls are filling and when you're ready to empty them, simply hold your sweeper over the bin and squeeze the little tab in the corner of each bin. Tray. The bowl opens downwards, dumps the dirt into the container and closes again. These knots feel solid and work smoothly and reliably. The sweeper looks every bit as good as one would expect: an understated shape and no flashy colours, just a basic black (although a yellow finish seems to be available if you'd like). bright). It folds up for easy storage. It's easy to clean and squeegees are less prone to tangling up hair, threads, etc. than traditional rotary brushes, which I find to be a major benefit. Can't comment on the durability of the parts as I haven't used mine much yet, but don't expect any problems. Note that Rubbermaid considers this a "commercial" product and not a "household product" so see the Rubbermaid Commercial website at [.] It's not the cheapest sweeper on the market, but my advice is always to stockpile and buy the best quality you can afford. After a year (unless you're in such bad shape that you shouldn't be shopping online at all) you won't miss the extra money spent; But every time you use this thing, you'll appreciate something that works properly and makes your job easier, not harder. I'm glad I spent the extra money on this well made sweeper and am happy to recommend it.
