Review on Kelty Redwing Liter Backpack for Day Hiking and Backpacking by Tammy Jackson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great package for your money. So far very satisfied.

Dig into that bag. It's been over 20 years since I've been camping/hiking. Over the years, the minimal things I've done have only required a standard book bag. Lately I've lost a lot of weight and I've been going for walks with my family in the fresh air again. I hiked a lot with Kelty in the 90's. I still have this backpack and still love it, but it's 65+ and I didn't need that much room for day trips. We are a family of 5. Children up to 7 years. I end up being a pack mule for snacks, water, first aid and other things. Did a hike with a regular book bag and the water was heavy enough that it really hurt my shoulders. This one with a waist and chest strap really makes a difference. The low price was also an advantage. So far, so good. Took with me 4 x 48 oz Nalgen, first aid kit, snacks for a family of 5, knife, saw, gun etc etc. There is room for more. The only minor complaint about the mesh side pockets. Almost impossible to access while on my back. They are embedded under the side pockets. Overall very satisfied. It has been adorned with several patches that will be added as we create more memories. With this backpack I saw my first bear (and cubs) in the wild. I almost stepped on a rattlesnake in that backpack. Saw the Appalachian Trail. He led me up the mountain paths from bottom to top.
