Review on 🎢 Sony CFDS70B.CEK Classic CD and Tape Boombox with Radio - Black: Experience Timeless Music Entertainment by Minoru Chikamatsu ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A little bit not what I expected, generally fine.

I was looking for a relatively inexpensive radio with a cassette mechanism (basic requirement) for an elderly person. I found only 3 models with a cassette mechanism, they are no longer produced. I chose the average value. Despite the shortcomings, I don’t regret buying it, because. there are no other options on the market anymore (do not take second-hand ones).

Pros
  • There are no particularly positive features. The main requirement was to find at least some device with a cassette player and mechanical control. A CD player was not needed. Formally everything works. Cassettes play, hitchhiking works (except for rewind). The average sound range is not distorted. The device is lightweight. The case is matte, not easily soiled, the seams do not creak. Production date - December 2022.
Cons
  • If you evaluate it as a music lover with great experience - the sound is like from an analog telephone, maybe a little better. You won’t hear any 80-10,000 Hz from the cassette player (according to the passport), at most - 250-7000 Hz (along the path through the headphones it’s a little better - 100-7000 Hz). There are no tone controls, only the "Mega-bass" switch, No built-in microphone for sound recording. CD did not evaluate as superfluous. AM catches badly (in Hong Kong time and in Hong Kong Region I caught 1.5 stations and those non-2022 ones), FM - tolerably, one might say not bad. The record and playback keys are narrow, they are located unsuccessfully next to each other, sometimes the finger touches both keys and you can accidentally overwrite the recording. The markings on the cassette keys are hard to see (not painted). The price of 5300r ($100) is not justified. But in fact it is a rarity. About 20-30 years ago, when there was a large and high-quality choice, I would never have bought such a device, for any money. But now the situation is different, cassettes are almost never produced.
