My kids love colored lights and I love white lights. I set up slow switching. Perfect! I had a pre-lit tree, but when the lights went out I got a regular tree. One strand lit up our entire Christmas tree! I didn't use a timer. The remote control is so convenient and the light doesn't get hot so I don't have to worry all the time! But don't worry if you lose the remote control next season, there is a control box next to the plug so you can set it to the lighting you prefer!
