At first I was a little skeptical of the sturdiness because the base comes folded, which just seemed weird, but once it's put together it's a non-issue. The assembly is super easy (five mins or less), especially considering the instructions were an ok guide but not super helpful.I did use a measuring tape before I ordered it and somehow I was still surprised by how short it was. It's not a bad thing but my kitties love to really stretch when scratching and while they do play with it, I just feel like it's not enough. This is great for a smaller kitten but my five month old kittens much prefer the other scratching post I got that's longer. I added the DVD in the picture to try and help indicate its height for visual learners. It is compact which is helpful for smaller spaces.
