Initial thoughts on the switch Canon 5Dii

I bought this camera as a potential complement or replacement for my Canon 5D Mark II and a range of expensive quality lenses. The main reason for this was that I wanted something smaller that I could travel with more easily than with my "big" camera and a set of large, heavy lenses. Here are some testimonials from my first week with Fuji:* Wow, I'm just blown away by the image quality this camera produces with the 18-55 kit lens (more expensive). The images correspond to those I would take with my 5Dii and a very good prime lens. But this is a whale lens! That's zooming! See attached picture. I'm not sure if Amazon degrades the quality of the file, but if you can zoom in and see the details, they're perfect. Just as good as pro DSLRs and expensive prime lenses.* I shoot everything RAW. The colors that come out of the camera are really great. Back to the level of what I can get with a great prime lens. Nothing is washed out. The colors are bright and beautiful. However, I noticed that some shots taken in bright street lighting have an unwanted blue tint. Easy to set up later and I could miss that setting.* The ability to charge the camera via USB was an unexpected surprise that I hadn't thought of. Now I can leave my charger at home and just plug it into my mini-USB and my phone's wall adapter. I can also charge the camera with a pocket battery like you use to charge a cell phone.* Face ID is pretty good. Eye detection is a little less clear unless you're dealing with a perfectly still subject. Face ID doesn't always work for me for some reason.* I like being able to focus with the touchscreen. Please note that this is not the default behavior and you will need to update your settings. Do you want to focus on the person in the corner? Just touch her face. That's great. However, you should keep in mind that the focus will remain in that location until you update it.* Another unexpected benefit: you can shoot without bringing the camera to your eyes. People just seem less stressed when you're acting more like a tourist than a "photographer".* Unexpected disappointment: I'm using Lightroom version 5.7, which is a few years old. RAW images from this camera will not be accepted as the software is no longer being developed to support new camera models. Adobe wants you to pay $10 a month for their crappy new version, but you can also download the Adobe Digital Negative Converter app for Windows or Mac, which losslessly converts RAW images to a format that the old version of Lightroom accepted. That's all. I have in a week. Overall, I'm really impressed with this little camera. It fits in a jacket pocket and takes photos at the level of a giant single-lens reflex camera that was state-of-the-art five years ago. I'll definitely keep it for travel and when I'm happy with it I might replace it entirely with a large SLR.
