Review on Canon 17-40mm f/4L EF Ultra Wide Angle Lens: A Must-Have for Impressive Photography by Wiktor Skowroski ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

/ 2.8 and 28 / 2.8 wide-angle fixed, the combination of very good optical qualities, it is very good, comfortable indoors, however it may be inferior to the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 in this one respect only. I recommend checking out these images: 17 mm, with the sun dead center in the shot - https://fotki. 25 mm - https://fotki. While the 40mm focal length and f/4 aperture at this focal length ensure excellent color reproduction and contrast, I did not find it convenient on a crop camera due to its lack of a usable near telephoto range (only up to 64mm EGF, up to 80-85mm is too far).

Pros
  • Focusing to infinity significantly reduces distortion compared to focusing on close objects, although not completely, and the lens is very sharp across the frame from 20-40, even in backlight, with juicy color reproduction and an adequate level of geometric and chromatic aberrations, which practically disappear at 20. Waterproof and dustproof construction, especially after winding the filter cover. Nearly circular diaphragm with 8 blades Nice pricing compared to competitors for such a practical lens Ultrasonic Silent Motor (USM) ring drive delivers fast, quiet, and accurate autofocus with continuous manual override (FTM).
Cons
  • The range of MPs is roughly 1–20. Do not dwell too much on this deficiency if you own a Canon 5D, MP; it does not have a major impact on the majority of frames, and you can get a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L IS USM for the same price as a Canon EF 25/21 or a Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM. The existence in the range of 17–25 mm (roughly) focal length There is a hood and a soft case, but I never use them because they are unnecessary.
