I was so excited to see a hair color company finally come up with a line of cooler brought out brunette to keep copper to a minimum. I'm always torn between wanting red hair and not dying my hair. The problem with a lot of auburn hair dye is that they don't get cold enough to get rid of the coppery tones of one of my recent auburn experiments, so I was thrilled when I saw this new line. I went with 5C thinking it would be darker than it actually is but unlike most colors this color was exactly the same as on the box and I had to darken it. Boxes, and there were barely enough, which was a little surprising because I usually have a lot left over by using two boxes of color - so keep that in mind depending on hair length. I left the color on for 5 minutes longer than recommended as the red on my roots was so intense. The biggest issue for me was how runny the gel was. It spread everywhere and made applying the paint difficult as I use a bowl and brush to apply. At least the color didn't stain my skin as much as other hair dyes. I usually lose a lot of hair when I color my hair but this time it came out a little which was great but now that my hair is wet it feels like lead. The good thing is that when dry my hair feels light and fluffy, as well as very soft and very shiny! My hair looks exactly like the color on the box, except for a few places where the previous red REALLY stuck. It actually makes my hair look quite interesting in the light as bits of cherry appear randomly in the silvery brown areas. In low light it's an incredibly rich, beautiful brown. I won't lie, I still prefer L'Oreal Feria. I find it more multifaceted, less drippy and with a lot more brilliance. 4 stars because I love it and I think next time I'll choose L'Oreal Cools 4C to get the silvery dark look I was aiming for BUT it wasn't a lot of dye even using two boxes , it dripped a lot, it didn't completely cover the auburn I had and WOW it had a strong chemical smell that made me see blemishes at times. Pros: + Precise color on the box for me from 5 weeks L'Oreal Feria 41, crushed pomegranate + Beautiful silvery highlights + Incredibly soft + Color washes off quickly + Doesn't stain skin as much as other colors + Lots of shine + Little Hair loss after coloring (mostly a lot of hair falls out during coloring) Cons - VERY drippy - Couldn't quite handle the previous red - When rinsing, and now when wet, my hair feels like a hard block of lead, that's a weird one Sensation - Strong Chemical Odor (First two photos: Before, L'Oreal Feria 41 Crushed Garnet, Next three: After, L'Oreal Superior Preference 5C, Last: Super Preference 4C after "fading" in May. Not sure, why the photos are sideloading.) EDIT 05/07/16 I wanted to test my thoughts on longevity and if it turned out to be brash. I ended up buying 4C to completely hide the crushed pomegranate and applying it about four weeks after 5C. Some great things about it - 4C did NOT give my hair the lead block feel I got from 5C which was a bit odd but for which I was grateful. I am very surprised and happy to say that my hair has not become coppery at all and my hair is still incredibly shiny. I have not painted or tinted it since; The silver highlights are still there and my hair is thick, healthy and shiny. Although applying hair dye is incredibly damaging in terms of the strong chemical smell, I was very impressed with the results and still can't believe there was NO BRASS. My hair is gorgeous, dark silvery ash brown and I have L'Oreal to thank; this one really nailed it.
