When the last Cable TV Act went into effect in 1994, I installed a complete cable distribution system in my home, running cables into every room. We used one amplifier for the whole house and connected an 8-way splitter. It was great before the DTV switch. Our cable TV provider ended up dropping all analog TV services. Only televisions with a set-top box, digital transmission adapter or QAM tuner (for receiving TV channels in baseband) are suitable. I had to ditch my old analog amp for the whole house and switch to a digital amp that had a return channel (return path) to communicate with the set top box and DTA. (These are two-way devices that need to be verified and connected to the cable company's servers). I went with this little guy and it works great. I also replaced the original 8-way splitter with a low-loss 8-way splitter/combiner (to support bi-directional communication).
