I'm a full-time software developer and wear them all day

I've been a software developer for 13 years and about 6 years ago I started experiencing severe pain and inflammation of the wrists by typing and using the mouse. I think as I got older my wrists couldn't handle the amount of work I put on them every day. The doctor diagnosed me with RSIs in the ulnar tunnels on both wrists. The right hand, my mouse hand, was worse. There were days when I could barely type from the pain, which was very frustrating since programming was my livelihood. I spent about two years in agony and frustration trying to cope with the problem: physical therapy, massages, cold compresses, and experimentation with my posture and keyboard/mouse settings. It took me about two years to finally get the problem under control. There were no magic bullets. I had to make numerous small changes in my work habits and desktop arrangement to solve this problem. These gloves were an important part of my decision. For me, the magic combination was: - Imak gloves on both hands (I wear them all day) - Replace my regular mouse with a Contour Rollermouse (quite an unusual input device, but I like it. Note that the RollerMouse 2 is good works with these gloves and RollerMouse Red - no, as the wrist pads touch the input pad) - switch to a soft split keyboard (I used Kinesis FreeStyle 2) - get your hands off the chair so I don't lean on my elbows - specialist for monitor, seat and desk height adjustment - Many stretches and breaks throughout the day. I value these gloves very highly because they make a huge difference to my comfort. I literally wear them 8 hours a day, every day at work. You look a little weird. I feel like Spiderman with silk glands on my wrist but they keep me going. If I work without gloves for even 30 minutes, my wrists start to hurt and become inflamed. I attribute most of the solution to these gloves because sometimes I'm away from my desk and just working on my laptop. With these gloves I can make it comfortable. The gloves allow my hands to relax on the table while keeping my wrists in line with my forearms for proper writing posture. The gloves are also soft, which gives my hands a normal range of motion. I've tried stiff gloves before and while this reduced wrist strain, it caused other problems due to the overly restricted movement. A few notes on the gloves - they run small. I have small hands for a man and large ones fit me - the wrist padding wears down over time so I change them every 2 years - they hold up well to washing - the gloves basically keep your wrist vertical so your hand and forearm stay in line . . If your problem is related to another shift, such as B. wrist inward/outward rotation then I don't think these gloves will help as much as they have some control in that direction but not as much as hard gloves.

Pros

Cons
  • Not as thick as other models
