Review on πŸ”Š SMSL SA100 Bluetooth 5.0 Amplifier: 50W x 50W Power, 2-Channel Stereo Audio Amp, Treble Bass Desktop Amp (Blue) by Dustin Keller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great sound, easy bluetooth, 2 channel preamp for 50 x 50w speakers.

Simply a good preamp with 2 speakers. This was the third part of my SMSL setup and it works great. It handles two of my 50-watt Klipsch speakers with ease. I almost always turn the volume down to -30dB, so I don't even get close to pushing this guy to the max. I'm sure if you're trying to hook up bigger speakers or really want to scroll through the sound, you could be in trouble. But if you have 50W or lower speakers, you can't go wrong with this guy. The power button allows you to switch inputs with one touch. Or turn it off with a long press. The volume control is also multifunctional. It usually just adjusts the volume, while the LCD provides a dB output. A short press of the volume knob allows you to control the equalization of high and low frequencies. Even if that's a bit extreme. While you can go +-6dB either way, that makes some extreme adjustments to the sound. Finally, if you press and hold the button, the Bluetooth connection will be activated. Bluetooth works very smoothly, with almost no lags. Unfortunately, as with anything Bluetooth, the lag is still there, so I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or watching videos. But it's so small you can barely see it, so it's fine in a pinch. Otherwise it's mostly for audio and it does it better than most Bluetooth receivers. I like it. This guy only had one downside. It's a little weird when you adjust the volume. The volume control is purely digital and doesn't work very well. It is often difficult to tell in which direction you are turning the knob. This is especially noticeable when you're trying to make small and quick adjustments, as you can increase the volume by one or more notches instead of decreasing it. If you make big changes and flip quickly, that's fine. It's just small, gentle movements that he doesn't like. And of course this is a 2.0 setup only, so no subwoofer connections. I'm sure a creative person could find a way, but nothing is supported natively. But if you have good speakers, you probably won't need them. This is more for your desk than your home entertainment system. Overall it works great and is a great addition to my setup.
