The TP-Link EAP245 offers good features at an affordable price. I'll say right away that my review focuses mostly on the technical capabilities and features. The EAP245 appears to be a solid platform that offers an impressive array of features. For home use, the available "controller" software is more confusing than it needs to be. Configure AP via HTTP interface; You will find this experience easy and sufficient. Both radios (2.4 and 5 GHz) offer sufficient coverage for a medium-sized home. SSH access is also available but needs to be enabled. The device uses DropBear SSH server, which is associated with many vulnerabilities; So disable SSH if you don't need terminal access. The ability to vary performance helps customize the heatmap for those who care about security. Speaking of security, the AP implements access control for management at the data link layer (MAC address) rather than the network layer. This can be a little tricky for a home environment in the US. The WiFi connection works fine for the most part. Some intermittent oddities have been found with Apple devices; nothing or consequences. Automatic selection of the working channel (for each radio station) is in no way inferior to commercial devices. For areas suffering from high-density wireless devices, the EAP245 offers real relief. The bandwidth is stable and corresponds to the advertisements. I've actually observed how wireless connections are superior to wired ones. Support for eight SSIDs/radios and endpoint isolation per SSID provide good protection for a home office environment. There seems to be some confusion in customer feedback regarding PoE. The EAP245 works with both 802.3af and 802.3at power supplies. As such, the EAP245 offers reliable and predictable performance. The price makes the device a strong contender for consideration.
