They just didn't fit me. First, the quality is bad. One wash and they started falling apart, leaving the rest of the laundry wrapped in dozens of yards of elastic rope. They also turn on my feet when I wear them, especially when I walk. It may be normal that all of the inside was gel, but it wasn't. So the gel part turns inwards and after an hour of wear the gel is no longer covering my outer heel where I need it most. And when I use a moisturizing product, it soaks into the fabric of the sock where it can't be washed off completely. Finally, I don't think they really moisturize. You just make your feet sweat and then prevent it from evaporating so you just stew in your own juices. I'm guessing it's moisturizing, but it's not very glamorous or decadent. Also, the socks smell awful. It keeps my heels off if used diligently (turning the gel on my heels a thousand times a day) but it's too much hassle. Must look for better gel socks.
