Review on Couture Sewing Techniques Revised Updated Ebook by Angela Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A fascinating book for housewives/fashionistas.

I am a skilled seamstress at home and always eager to learn more about designing clothes. The reason I was drawn to this book was because I'm interested in learning more advanced clothing design techniques (not that I'll ever use them, but I just want to get a better understanding of how the "pros" do it do). I also really appreciate well-tailored clothing and I'm excited to see how this look comes about. Finally, I was looking for tips on how to make my clothes feel less "homemade". I read the book bit by bit (I don't see it as a book that I just go down and read cover to cover). It is interesting to read about the history of haute couture sewing. And I'm starting to get little pointers here and there that I can apply to my home sewing. Just as an example, even though I have a good, new sewing machine and serger, I often resort to hand hemming because I just can't get the machine to get the result I want (I just assumed I didn't have the right to do so ). level of knowledge in order to make necessary adjustments to the machine settings). Well, after learning that the vast majority of couture work is done by hand, I'm now completely confident in continuing to hand-do the edges and other details for better control and a smoother look. It may not seem like a big deal, but for me this is just one area to worry about when sewing and I can trust my approach. I'm reading about different seam designs right now - another area that will come in handy for home sewers. The book has excellent illustrations and is printed on good, thick, glossy paper, making it a good "show" book. . Looks great on a coffee table. :) Yes, I know it's weird to mention it in a book review, but it's true.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • So far so good
