Review on WALNUTT DLP WiFi Mini Projector 2021: Wireless Screen Mirroring, 1080P Supported, Smartphone/PS4/TV Box/Laptop/Sound Bar/TV Stick Compatibility by Nathan Tsugawa

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Good idea and design but poor quality and finish

UPDATE 1/3/2021: I have contacted the seller/manufacturer regarding an issue with my speaker which is causing the speaker to be very loud after turning on the projector loud static noise emits for a while. At first, they were quick to respond, saying they needed to "contact the factory" about this. Then a few days later they replied again that they could only improve future products and could not help me with my problem. Due to their complete lack of support, I've downgraded my rating to one star for now. If they change their minds I will update them again. Even though I got it "for free" through Vine, they still need to support their product. I was very excited when this came up for review on Vine. I was very intrigued by the idea of an almost pocket-sized projector that runs for hours on an internal battery. I already have a much better projector but it runs on AC power so limits its use. But I knew there would likely be a significant difference in quality between the two, and I set my expectations accordingly. Set up was easy - charge it with the included adapter, put some batteries in the remote and twist to turn it on. I noticed that the auto keystone correction worked as soon as I tried to position the projector while it was already on. It's really cool and pretty accurate - at the expense of image quality, of course. However, this love story ended. I'm not sure if I have a defect or if it's just the result of poor construction, but when first turned on and every time it was off for a while and after a few seconds (maybe 30) it generated from the speaker (speaker). a very loud static sound. I made sure that this is also present on the audio output. I could turn down the volume or turn off the sound and the noise stopped but reappeared as soon as it was turned on. The only way to stop this completely is to turn the projector off and on again. Not knowing when and if this very loud and unpleasant event will occur already makes this projector unsuitable for regular use. I hope this is just mine and not all of them. In any case, after getting it to work "normally" I was able to test some more features. I connected it to my Wi-Fi network to try out the iOS streaming feature, which seems to mimic an Apple TV as an AirPlay receiver. But it sucks. When you stream videos, there is a noticeable lag between the video and audio. When you mirror your screen, there is a delay between your device and the projected image. And sometimes it just didn't work at all - but it could also be Wi-Fi issues. But overall I would say it's not worth buying this projector for this feature. The only thing I tried is the HDMI input. I used it with a 4K Fire TV Stick and it worked fine. He immediately picked up the signal and I was in business. Combined with some sort of external sound system, the experience is actually enjoyable as long as you don't encounter any noise. As far as picture quality goes, it's mediocre at best. This isn't too bad when viewed from a distance, but there is a definite "screen door" effect, and when you get closer you can clearly see individual pixels. But that's to be expected. The specifications state that the DLP chip has a resolution of 854 x 480, which is the SD resolution. Of course it can receive and display a 1080p signal, but you don't literally see the whole picture. But I was impressed by the brightness of the LED light source. Even in a darkened room, it's bright enough to enjoy. However, I cannot recommend it based on my review due to the deafening static. Hopefully it's just me or it can be fixed in a later firmware update. But if you get a good device and live up to the expectations, this is a great entry-level little projector with some fun features. Because it's so quick and easy to set up, it's perfect for use in a variety of situations.
