Pacificas are special and cost more

Here is the situation: You have purchased an aftermarket radio for your Chrysler Pacifica. You have purchased an installation kit that includes a bezel, antenna adapter and 70-6502 standard wiring for modern Chrysler vehicles. You plug everything in and get no sound from your new head unit. You examine and see that instead of the standard speaker wires coming out of the Pacifica's dashboard wiring harness, two twisted pairs of wires go back to the amplifier, which is located under the back seat. Now many Chrysler vehicles have an amplifier, especially those with Infinity sound systems. You just need to get a wire harness part number 70-6503 that replaces the speaker wires with RCA plus those that plug into the head unit RCA outputs, right? Not so fast. The amp in Pacifica is not a standard Chrysler amp and does not support RCA output. The amplifier uses the 'audio bus' from the main unit and sends the encoded audio to the amplifier where it is mixed with the sound from the onboard navigation system and/or backup public address system if you have them installed. Now you have two choices: 1) For about thirty dollars, you can install this hanger, model 70-6506. This involves running about 8 to 15 feet of cable (depending on how you want to route it) from the dash to the amplifier. You connect the speaker wires to the head unit as usual, and on the amplifier side, disconnect the speakers from the amplifier and connect them to the 6506 wire harness. This allows you to use a standard car audio head unit and its built-in amplifier. It also silences the backup alarm and the built-in Chrysler navigation system. 2) For about one hundred and twenty dollars, you can buy an adapter CHTO-02, which will allow you to fade out the audio signal on the bus audio signal. the format the amplifier is looking for. This is much more expensive and difficult as there are many wires to work with. However, you can keep the audio of the backup alarm and navigation system, and you don't have to run additional cables to bypass the factory amplifier. I have already bought and tried the 6502 and 6503 straps. Learn from my failures! :)
