I have been looking for a replacement for the Oral-B floss for a long time, precisely because it often hurts the gums, although it does a good job of cleaning difficult places. Many threads that I have tried are inferior to oral bi in terms of strength - they break and get stuck between the teeth, so their remains had to be cleaned out with the same oral bi. Plus, the tested competitors damaged the gums with the same probability. But SPLAT is another matter. Both durable and extremely soft. Now my main thread is SPLAT, and for complex cases I have Oral-B. Moreover, I bought another Splat for the office, and threw out all the other threads without regrets. In general, I recommend trying Splat, especially since it costs much less than its eminent competitor.
