I live in the middle of nowhere in the Sierra Nevada where our energy is usually very drained. I bought this flashlight in December 2013 and it still works on the original batteries I put in at the time. It's been over four years now! I read about it, walked it from room to room, spent a Christmas Eve with a friend during a power outage that lasted 7 hours with it. He has never let me down. ADVICE. I started early on to find a place above my head, for example on the fridge or on bookshelves. Placing it high will make it much brighter than on a table below eye level. Just one flashlight will light up the whole room - certainly not as bright as regular light, it's just one lamp in one place so you probably won't be able to sit across the room and do something unreasonable, like , thread a needle, but it's definitely bright enough that you can leave it in one spot and still see what you're doing as you move. So if you need to light up a large area, give it a try.
