Review on Chiffon Covers Filters: Reusable Protection for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by Ashwin Drollinger

Nice but too thin for Covid protection

These mask scarves are exactly what I was looking for but don't quite offer the protection I'm looking for in a mask . The mask area is no thicker than the rest of the chiffon scarf and only has a small pocket for attaching a filter. See attached image of a dark blue mask draped over my laptop screen. If they just added a layer or two of cotton or jersey around the mask area that would be perfect! I would love to wear this scarf as is outdoors where risk is minimal, but for indoor use I will ensure it is safe by attaching a mask that I can dispose of indoors. The workmanship of the scarf is pretty good, especially for something so cheap. All edges are processed, everything looks symmetrical, the fabric is soft. The ear loops are soft, elastic and adjustable. The size is roughly the same as a standard handkerchief/bandana. One reviewer complained that they were too small, but if they were larger they would flap in the wind, defeating the purpose of the mask. The picture of a girl in a black shirt and runner on Amazon shows the size exactly. The image of a traveler is not entirely accurate for the average adult and may lead you to believe that the shawl is larger than it really is. You have trouble with it, you might do it before you put it on. I have a normal sized head (I think?) and was able to take the scarf off without untying it. All in all it's a nice and practical solution to this unique problem the world is facing, but just a few small tweaks would make it perfect!

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
