They must NOT get wet and must not be carried outside the home! Buy socks and put on shoes. Maybe if they called socks with hard bottoms that would be more appropriate but still they just don't feel good to wear after the first time. I don't suffer from "smelly feet" but let me tell you, I took them off after a few hours of wearing them and they SMELL TERRIBLE! My guess is that they're made out of non-breathable material, so wearing them in the water might only offer some protection, but dubious.
