There is a platform bed that uses a different spring/anti-flip mattress support method (horizontal slats running from the center support to the side rails). Two boards broke so I decided to reinforce the support structure. There are 3 horizontal 1x4 boards connecting the side support rails together and running over the center support beam. These boards are screwed through the side support rails. On top of each of these boards I have a support rail (3 boards, 6 support posts) about 6 inches in from the outside edge of the side support rails (so you don't get your toes snagged later). Assembled the bed and adjusted the height of the supports. Now these 6 new legs take some of the weight off the brackets that attach the side rails to the headboard and footboard and take the weight off the original support slats. So far, so good.
